Tips For Getting More Visitors To Your Website
Five Simple Ways
You Can Get Google To Love You
The internet
today is dominated by Google and everyone wants to be on the right side of the
big G. With the constant changes to how Google selects which pages make it to
the top of its search listings it can sometimes seem like an uphill battle.
Many people have lost interest in learning the search engine optimisation (SEO)
game and now simply pay for traffic.
Having said that.
there are some simple yet effective ways to drive traffic straight from
Google's listings without being an SEO expert.
Below you will find five of the simplest ideas that will get you listed
in Google's search listings.
1. Content is king. We all know this, so why is it that so many of us
simply don't target our keywords? For those who are new to this, targeting
relevant keywords in your site content helps your website to be found in the
search engines. Many people fall short here and concentrate on repeating the
name of their company. People on the internet won’t be searching for your
company name – they don't know you yet.
Making sure you
are found under the terms your potential visitors will be searching for is key.
For example, if you are a sausage maker you need to concentrate on being found
under “sausage makers” etc.
2. Meta-Tags. Relying just on meta tags is a thing of
the past. Google decided meta tags were not accurate enough for their users.
After all, a webmaster could use the meta tags to tell the search engines their
site was about sausage making but have pages of content on raising cows
instead. Some meta tags are useful and
its best to include them, but they should not be your main focus.
3. Google loves a site map.
Creating a site map is fairly simple and can be a powerful ally for your
site to achieve high rankings. A site
map is a well located page or pages that includes links to all of your internal
web pages. Search engine friendly
sitemaps ensure that Google can easily find all of your pages at once, not just
a few of them. This helps with indexing
of new pages and provides a good and themed backlink with the right
description. It’s a useful navigation
tool for human visitors too.
4. Backlinks. A backlink
is where another website displays a link to your website. As far as Google is concerned if you have
sites linking to you then you’re doing quite a lot right. Even better, is if the backlinks are from
high quality sites that Google already likes and the site is relevant to your
website. Checking the page rank of
websites is a basis for deciding which ones to target for backlinks. You can download Google’s tool bar for
this. The process of gaining backlinks
should be spaced out over a period of time and done consistently. This looks more genuine to Google and is
effective.
5. Updating your site. Google is trying to reduce the number of out of date
websites appearing in its search listings. Updating your website regularly
shows Google that you are serious about your site and they’re more likely to
send you their free traffic.
